Item Number: 149440 Title: Color into Life : HITTORFF's lave émaillés, 1834-1841 Author: Kiene, Michael ; David van Zanten Price: Not Available ISBN: 9783931596352 Description: Cologne: Universitäts- und Stadtbibliothek Köln, 2018. 31cm., hardcover, 169pp. with numerous color plates. English text (German, French, Italian summaries). Summary: As a young man Jacob Ignaz Hittorff went from Cologne to Paris and there started a unique architectural career. This seventh Hittorff volume illuminates his work as a designer and entrepreneur in Paris from 1830. The University and Stadtbibliothek (Köln) conserve a total of 45 drawings of laves émaillés, which serve as "chefs-modčles" (Werkzeichnungen) for his company Hachette & Ko. In a leaflet published for the exhibition of industrial products in 1834, Hittorff explained the advantages of enamelled lava plates, especially their shelf life indoors and even outside of buildings. Hachette & Ko. offered a decorative solution for every taste. Thus, the inventory of the University Library Cologne should not be seen as a treatise on the question "In what styles should we paint?" On the contrary, it offers answers to all contradictory client requirements.
