Item Number: 117952 Title: Padova 1310: percorsi nei cantieri architettonici e pittorici della Basilica di Sant'Antonio Author: Baggio, Luca ; Luciano Bertazzo (eds) Price: Not Available ISBN: 9788885155855 Description: Padova: Associazione Centro Studi Antoniani, 2011. 24cm., pbk., 249pp. illus. Conference proceedings. Summary: The first document dealing with the "Varia et inmensa mutatio" of the Basilica of St Anthony in Padua dates back to 1310. The international conference organized on the occasion of this centenary anniversary has investigated and re-interpreted the architectural and pictorial developments of that period in this important shrine. The conference proceedings open with an article about the Friars Minor's general chapter which took place in Padua in 1310. Following the final transfer of the Saint's remains, that chapter was also the occasion for the unveiling of the Basilica's completion. It comes out that the Basilica had been planned from the beginning in its present architectural structure. Other essays describe Giotto and his School's fresco cycles, the structure of the Basilica revealed like a "nova Jerusalem", the spread of Saint Anthony's iconography. In the end, a bulky article describes the recent restauration works done on the structure of the Basilica's domes.
