Item Number: 111749 Title: ALBERTO GIACOMETTI Author: Peppiat, Michael (ed) Price: Not Available ISBN: 9788837085070 Description: Milano: Electa, 2011. 2 vols. 28cm., pbk. Vol. 1: L'anima del Novecento, 133pp. ; Vol. 2: Nello studio di Giacometti, 219pp., both vols. prof. illus. Exhibition held at MAGA, Gallarate. Summary: Giacometti the artist had several sides. He was the man who lived in a makeshift studio in Rue Hippolyte-Maidron in Paris, a friend of prostitutes and philosophers alike and interlocutor of writers such as Genet, Sartreand Beckett but he was also the Surrealist whose sculptures excited enthusiasm in Breton and Dalì; he then turned his back on that experience and returned in total solitude to the highly original research from which he had started. This large monograph accompanies an exhibition at the MAGA museum, comprising 47 sculptures, 40 drawings and 5 large paintings. The collection belonged to Giacometti's nephew and has never been exhibited in public. This makes it totally new, along with the fact that Michael Peppiat explores an intimate Giacometti via works produced at the height of his artistic maturity, from his studio.
